BLACK ROCK: A daring new whisky bar in Shoreditch
Whisky fanatic’s, don’t waste a moment before you visit Black Rock. A daring new whisky bar where you can enjoy a new insight into this versatile and delicious liquor. Black Rock is located in a dark seductive basement moments from Old Street station in Shoreditch.
This whisky den is the most recent creation from Tom Aske and Tristan Stephenson, the pair behind London’s infamous Worship Street Whistling Shop and drinks brand Aske Stephenson.
They are inviting you to discover and experiment in an evolving social drinking environment.
The interior design is masculine and sharp. High tables adorned with gold water taps sit adjacent to bespoke ‘Film Noir’ style artwork from Bristol based artist Ryan Gajda. These modern tables lie parallel to an 18ft, 185-year-old oak tree-trunk. A ‘roaming’ bartender will mix and serve drinks amongst guests who will be able to sit around each side of the first-of-its-kind oak trunk.
The innovative installation will also act as an interactive cocktail ageing system
Black Rock’s Whisky Library boasts over 250 bottles from around the world; you will be able to explore your taste palette across the globe. We sipped and tried as variety of drinks from their menu, all with mixed expression, excitement and intrigue. I was very much drawn to their highball drink, ‘1 of your 5.’ a mouth-watering combination of table whisky; cider vinegar and fresh lavender had me addicted from the first taste. We were recommended ‘Campfire’ a smoky sweet blend of 10 Bulleit, Lagavulin and mallowchar, served with a smoked marshmallow on carved ice. This paired perfectly with their Haggis balls with mixed marmalade. I look forward to trying their ”INSTA-AGE” ROBROY cocktail upon return.
Stay tuned as they plan to launch a whisky concierge service later this year, the service will offer tutored tastings, advice on whisky investments and bespoke trips to whisky regions around the world.
